  • 1999-2005 Volkswagen Jetta IV (MK4, all trims, 1.8T / 2.0L / 2.8L VR6 12v / 2.8L VR6 24v / TDI, FWD)
  • 2002-2005 Volkswagen Jetta IV GLI (MK4, 1.8T, FWD)
  • 2003 Volkswagen Golf GTI 337 / 20th Anniversary Edition (MK4, 1.8T, FWD)

  • 1999-2005 Volkswagen Bora / Bora Sedan (PQ34 platform, FWD)

Fitment Notes

  • Fits FWD models only - does not fit Golf R32 (AWD), Golf 4Motion, or any AWD/4WD variants
  • When lowering more than 1.4 inches and the vehicle is equipped with a 42mm or larger driveshaft, an H&R Volkswagen front sway bar (H&R p/n 33525-1) is required to ensure adequate driveshaft clearance - this sway bar is mandatory at lowering of 35mm or more
  • Wheel spacers may be required when using the standard OEM wheel and tire combination or certain aftermarket aluminum wheels - verify clearances before installation
  • Lowering height varies by engine size, battery package, and model options
  • A four-wheel alignment is required after installation

Features

  • Polished stainless steel shock tubes deliver superior corrosion resistance and a premium appearance over standard painted steel strut bodies
  • Shock damping is fully adjustable via external knob - tune firmness from compliant daily-driver comfort to firm sport/track performance
  • Fully threaded shock body enables precise ride height adjustment throughout the full lowering range using spring perches and locking rings
  • Progressive-rate springs front and rear are engineered to maintain ride comfort and suspension travel at any set height within the adjustment range
  • Shocks are co-manufactured with KONI - a world-renowned specialist in performance shock absorbers - for validated damping curve accuracy
  • Lightweight aluminum front strut body reduces unsprung weight by 30-40% compared to factory struts for improved steering response and handling agility
  • H&R's exclusive dynamic damper technology matches shock valving precisely to the kit's progressive spring rates
  • Springs produced from 54SiCr6 high-tensile spring steel and shot-peened to extend fatigue life by over 200%
  • TUV-approved and ISO 9001-certified - 100% engineered and manufactured in Germany
  • 2-year manufacturer warranty

Product Description

The H&R 36525-1 Street Performance SS Coilover Kit is a fully adjustable, stainless steel suspension system purpose-built for the Volkswagen MK4 platform - covering the Golf IV, Jetta IV (including GLI and the 337/20th Anniversary Edition), and the New Beetle across their full production runs. As H&R's stainless steel variant of the Street Performance lineup, this kit distinguishes itself with polished stainless steel shock tubes that offer exceptional corrosion resistance and a premium visual presentation - a meaningful advantage over standard painted steel alternatives, especially on lowered vehicles where the suspension components are more exposed. The twin-tube gas pressure damper construction, co-developed with KONI, delivers the precise, controlled damping response that separates engineered coilovers from generic matched-spring packages.

The defining feature of this kit is its dual adjustability. Ride height is dialed in using a fully threaded aluminum front strut body and locking spring perches - providing a genuine 0.75-2.5 inch front and 0.30-2.25 inch rear lowering range without compromising suspension geometry or spring preload. Independently, shock damping firmness is adjusted via an external knob, allowing the driver to tune from a smooth, absorbent daily-driver setting to a firm, performance-biased setup for spirited driving or occasional track days. The lightweight aluminum front strut body contributes a 30-40% unsprung weight reduction compared to factory struts, directly improving steering feel, turn-in response, and overall chassis agility. Progressive-rate springs ensure ride quality is preserved across the full height adjustment range.

All components are produced at H&R's ISO 9001-certified facility in Lennestadt, Germany, using 54SiCr6 spring steel that is shot-peened for maximum durability. The kit carries a TUV approval and a 2-year manufacturer warranty. Two important installation notes: vehicles equipped with a 42mm or larger driveshaft require the H&R front sway bar (p/n 33525-1) when lowering more than 1.4 inches - this sway bar is mandatory at drops of 35mm or more to ensure driveshaft-to-sway bar clearance. Additionally, wheel spacers may be required with standard OEM or certain aftermarket wheel and tire combinations. A four-wheel alignment is required after installation. Fits FWD configurations only - not compatible with Golf R32, 4Motion, or any AWD variant.
