Vehicle Fitment

The TS-1740-4 fits all Porsche models using the 1740 rear pad shape with iron (non-PCCB) rotors. Confirmed fitment includes:

  • Porsche 911 Carrera S / 4S / GTS (991.1 and 991.2) - Rear axle, iron rotors excl. PCCB
  • Porsche 911 GT3 / GT3RS / GT2RS (991) - Rear axle, iron rotors excl. PCCB
  • Porsche 911 Turbo / Turbo S (991) - Rear axle, iron rotors excl. PCCB
  • Porsche 911 Carrera S / 4S / GTS (992) - Rear axle, iron rotors excl. PCCB
  • Porsche 911 GT3 / GT3RS (992) - Rear axle, iron rotors excl. PCCB
  • Porsche 911 Turbo / Turbo S (992) - Rear axle, iron rotors excl. PCCB
  • Porsche Cayman GT4 (981) - Rear axle, iron rotors excl. PCCB
  • Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 / Boxster Spyder (982) - Rear axle, iron rotors excl. PCCB

Fitment Notes

  • For iron (non-PCCB) rear brakes only - these shields are cut to the 1740 iron rotor rear pad shape; vehicles equipped with Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) use a different, wider pad shape and these shields will not fit correctly
  • Rear axle only - 4 pieces cover one complete rear axle (both rear calipers); for the matching front axle set (1741 pad shape), see GiroDisc TS-1741-4
  • No modifications required - shields are water jet cut to exact pad backing plate dimensions and insert directly between the pad backing plate and caliper pistons without any trimming, grinding, or fitting
  • Compatible with all brake pad brands using the 1740 rear pad shape - not limited to GiroDisc pads

Features

  • Prevents brake fluid boiling - the primary failure mode for street car braking systems on track days is brake fluid vaporisation caused by heat transferring from pads through caliper pistons into the fluid; once the fluid boils, the pedal goes to the floor as compressible gas replaces incompressible liquid in the hydraulic circuit; the titanium shield interrupts this heat transfer path at the pad-to-piston interface
  • Titanium 6AL-4V alloy - thermal conductivity of only 6.7 W/mk versus 52 W/mk for steel and 130 W/mk for aluminum; titanium is dramatically less conductive than either material, making a thin shield highly effective at blocking heat transfer into the pistons and fluid
  • Water jet cut to exact size - each shield is precision water jet cut to the exact pad shape with no secondary cutting, grinding, or fitting required; shields install and remove with the brake pads
  • Reusable across pad changes - shields are not consumed during use and can be reused across multiple sets of brake pads for the life of the calipers
  • Set of 4 - covers both rear calipers for a complete rear axle installation

Product Description

The GiroDisc TS-1740-4 is a set of four titanium pad shields for the rear axle of Porsche 911 (991, 992) and GT4 (981, 982) models fitted with iron rotors and the 1740 rear pad shape, excluding PCCB. Each shield is machined from Titanium 6AL-4V alloy and water jet cut to the exact dimensions of the 1740 rear pad backing plate - no trimming, grinding, or modification required on installation.

The function of these shields addresses one of the most common failure modes in production car braking systems during track use: brake fluid boiling. Under hard or repeated braking, heat generated at the pad-rotor interface transfers through the pad backing plate into the caliper pistons, and from there into the brake fluid. When brake fluid exceeds its boiling point it releases dissolved gas, making the fluid compressible and causing the pedal to travel to the floor rather than actuating the calipers. Titanium 6AL-4V has a thermal conductivity of just 6.7 W/mk - compared to 52 W/mk for steel and 130 W/mk for aluminum - making it highly effective at blocking heat transfer at the pad-to-piston interface even at very thin section thicknesses. The shield inserts between the pad backing plate and the caliper pistons, requiring no modification to pads, calipers, or other brake components.

The TS-1740-4 set of four covers both rear calipers for a complete rear axle installation. Shields are reusable across multiple pad changes and are not consumed during use. The matching front axle set for the 1741 front pad shape is GiroDisc TS-1741-4. Both sets are produced in the USA.
