Vehicle Fitment

  • Porsche 911 Turbo / Turbo S (991) - Front axle, excludes PCCB (ceramic brake) models
  • Porsche 911 Turbo (992) - Front axle, excludes PCCB; uses GT3 F pad shape (1741)
  • Porsche 911 Carrera GTS (992) - Front axle, excludes PCCB; uses GT3 F pad shape (1741)
  • Porsche 911 GT3 / GT3 RS (992) - Front axle, excludes PCCB
  • Porsche Cayman GT4 (981) - Front axle, excludes PCCB
  • Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 / Boxster Spyder (982) - Front axle, excludes PCCB

Fitment Notes

  • Front axle set only - covers one front axle (4 pieces total, 2 per caliper); for the matching rear axle set, see GiroDisc TS-1740-4
  • Excludes all PCCB (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake) models - PCCB calipers use different piston and pad configurations; verify your brake system before ordering
  • 992 Turbo and 992 Carrera GTS: uses the 1741 GT3 front pad shape - confirm pad shape compatibility with your specific 992 variant before ordering
  • These shims are placed between the brake pad backing plate and the caliper pistons - no modification to the caliper, rotor, or pad is required
  • Water jet cut to exact size - no trimming, grinding, or fitting required upon installation

Features

  • Titanium 6AL-4V construction - thermal conductivity of just 6.7 W/mk compared to 52 W/mk for steel and 130 W/mk for aluminum; titanium transfers approximately 7.7 times less heat than steel, making it the most effective material for caliper heat insulation short of racing-grade titanium pistons
  • Prevents brake fluid boiling - acts as a thermal barrier between the hot brake pad backing plate and the caliper pistons, interrupting the conduction path that drives fluid temperature above boiling point during hard or repeated braking
  • Eliminates soft/spongy pedal caused by vapour lock - boiling brake fluid releases compressible gas into the hydraulic circuit; these shims address the root cause at the piston interface rather than requiring fluid upgrades alone
  • Ideal for track days and repeated hard braking events - production street cars lack the titanium caliper pistons and extensive brake cooling ducts of dedicated race cars; these shims provide race-grade caliper thermal insulation on OEM hardware
  • Water jet cut to exact dimensions - precision-cut profiles match the exact pad backing plate shape for each application with no gap, rattle, or installation modification required
  • Thin profile - negligible impact on caliper piston travel, pad-to-rotor clearance, or brake feel
  • Price is per axle set (4 pieces)

Product Description

The GiroDisc TS-1741-4 is a set of four titanium 6AL-4V brake pad shims engineered for the front axle of the Porsche 911 (991 Turbo/Turbo S), 911 (992 GT3/GT3RS/Carrera GTS/Turbo), Cayman GT4 (981), and 718 Cayman GT4/Boxster Spyder (982) - all on iron/steel brake systems, excluding PCCB. Each shim is water jet cut to the exact profile of the 1741 GT3 front pad shape and is placed between the brake pad backing plate and the face of the caliper pistons, where it functions as a thermal barrier to interrupt the conduction path between the hot brake pad and the hydraulic fluid.

The core problem these shims address is brake fluid boiling - a failure mode that is common on production cars used on track because they lack the titanium caliper pistons and dedicated brake cooling systems of purpose-built race cars. When brake pad and rotor heat conducts through the caliper pistons into the fluid, the fluid temperature can exceed its boiling point during repeated hard braking events. Once the fluid boils, the vapour it releases is compressible, causing the brake pedal to travel toward the floor with little or no hydraulic resistance - a phenomenon commonly described as "brake fade" or "a long pedal." Titanium 6AL-4V has a thermal conductivity of just 6.7 W/mk compared to 52 W/mk for steel, meaning these shims transfer approximately 7.7 times less heat into the pistons than a steel backing plate would. By inserting this thin titanium layer at the highest heat-transfer interface in the caliper, GiroDisc effectively mimics the thermal insulation that titanium caliper pistons provide in dedicated racing calipers, at a fraction of the cost.

The TS-1741-4 covers one complete front axle (4 pieces total, 2 shims per caliper). The matching rear axle set is the GiroDisc TS-1740-4. All four shims are water jet cut to exact size - no trimming, grinding, or modification is needed at installation, and the thin profile has no meaningful effect on piston travel or pad-to-rotor clearance. These shims are an essential addition for any 991/992/981/982 Porsche owner planning repeated or extended track use, particularly those running high-friction brake pads that generate more heat than OEM compounds.
