Product Description

The GiroDisc A1-179 is a 2-piece fully-floating front rotor pair for the 2016-2024 Audi TT RS 8S. The 2-piece design replaces the OEM solid cast iron rotor with a 6061-T6 billet aluminum hat and a floating proprietary high-carbon iron ring -- eliminating the heavy cast iron hat section that accounts for the majority of rotor mass, resulting in approximately 5.4 lbs of weight savings per rotor (10.8 lbs per axle) over OEM. Because this is unsprung, rotating mass, the dynamic benefit is disproportionate to the raw weight savings: less rotational inertia means faster response to acceleration and braking inputs, and the reduction in unsprung weight directly improves suspension compliance and steering feel.

The curved directional vanes function as a centrifugal pump, drawing cooling air through the disc under braking to reduce heat buildup and extend rotor and pad life. Ten cadmium-plated drive pins allow the iron ring to expand and contract freely under thermal cycling without distorting the hat or generating the warping common in OEM 1-piece rotors under hard track use. Anti-noise spring washers on the pin faces keep the rotors silent when cold and prevent the rattle associated with other floating designs. When the iron ring wears out, only the ring needs replacement -- the aluminum hat is fully reusable. Matching rear rotors are GiroDisc A2-179, sold separately. Made in Bellingham, Washington, USA.
