MPN: A1-187

UPC: A1-187

Weight: 62.5 lb

Type: Brake Rotors - Slotted

Vehicle Fitment

  • 2012-2018 Audi S6 (C7, 4.0 TFSI Quattro - Sedan and Avant)
  • 2012-2018 Audi S7 (C7, 4.0 TFSI Quattro Sportback)
  • 2013-2018 Audi S8 (D4, 4.0 TFSI Quattro)

Fitment Notes

  • Front axle only - sold as a pair (2 rotors); for the rear axle set, see GiroDisc A2-187
  • Direct OE replacement - bolts to factory front hubs and works with OE front calipers and pads without modification; no caliper spacers required
  • Compatible with both Sedan and Avant (wagon) body styles of the C7 S6
  • Factory brake bias and ABS calibration are fully preserved
  • Minimum rotor thickness: 34 mm - replace rings when worn to this dimension
  • When the cast iron rings reach minimum thickness, only the replacement rings need to be purchased - the aluminum hats and hardware are fully reusable (replacement rings: D1-187)
  • The Audi C7 RS6 and RS7 use a different, larger front rotor and require GiroDisc A1-190 - do not use A1-187 on RS6/RS7

Features

  • Two-piece floating rotor construction - proprietary cast iron rotor ring joined to a 6061-T6 aircraft-specification aluminum hat via a 12-pin floating drive pin assembly; eliminates the heavy cast iron hat section of the OE one-piece rotor
  • Meaningful weight reduction - GiroDisc A1-187 rotors weigh approximately 29.3 lbs per rotor versus 33.3 lbs for OEM, saving approximately 4 lbs per corner (8 lbs total at the front axle); all savings are in unsprung and rotational mass
  • Curved vane disc design - internal vane geometry developed in racing to function as a centrifugal pump, actively drawing cooling air through the disc as it rotates for superior heat dissipation versus the OE rotor
  • Fully floating mount system - 12 high-strength alloy steel drive pins per rotor, manufactured by GiroDisc in the USA to proprietary specifications and cadmium plated for corrosion resistance; pins carry all braking torque loads while allowing the disc ring to float axially and radially relative to the hat
  • Anti-noise spring washers - allow thermal growth of the rotor ring without binding against the hat, eliminating rattle and clicking associated with cheaper floating rotor designs while maintaining true float under load
  • Rotor self-centering - floating design allows the disc to self-center between pads on each release, reducing residual drag and promoting even pad wear across the swept surface
  • Slotted rotor surface - slots continuously sweep brake dust, outgassed compounds, and debris from the pad contact face to maintain consistent bite and resist glazing during sustained or repeated hard braking
  • Proprietary GiroDisc cast iron alloy - poured in the USA and machined entirely in-house at GiroDisc; same material specification used by professional racing organisations
  • Rebuildable - when rings reach minimum thickness (34 mm), only the cast iron ring needs replacement; aluminum hat and all hardware are reusable (D1-187)
  • Manufactured entirely in the USA

Product Description

The GiroDisc A1-187 is a pair of two-piece floating front brake rotors designed as a direct OE replacement for the 2012-2018 Audi S6 (C7), 2012-2018 Audi S7 (C7), and 2013-2018 Audi S8 (D4) - all sharing the same 400 mm front rotor mounting and caliper interface. They bolt directly to the factory hubs and work with the OE front calipers and pads without any modification, spacer, or recalibration required. Factory brake bias and ABS efficiency are fully preserved. The change from OE is structural: the heavy single-piece cast iron hat is replaced with a CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminum hat, with the cast iron rotor ring attached via 12 floating high-strength alloy steel drive pins rather than being cast or bolted as a single piece.

At 400 mm, the S6/S7/S8 front rotor is a large, heavy unit - 33.3 lbs per corner from the factory - and the A1-187 brings each corner down to approximately 29.3 lbs, saving around 4 lbs per rotor and 8 lbs across the full front axle. On a large luxury performance sedan where brake cooling and thermal consistency are primary concerns during sustained high-speed or track driving, the combination of the curved vane disc geometry (which acts as a centrifugal pump to draw cooling air through the disc during rotation) and the reduced thermal mass of the aluminum hat meaningfully improves heat dissipation and reduces fade onset compared to the OE one-piece design. The 12-pin floating mount system allows the rotor ring to expand thermally without binding against the hat, with anti-noise spring washers preventing the rattle and cold-temperature clicking that can occur with poorly toleranced floating designs.

The floating mount also allows the rotor to self-center between the pads each time braking force is released, reducing residual drag at the pad face and promoting even wear across the full swept surface. When the cast iron rings wear to the minimum thickness of 34 mm, only the replacement rings (D1-187) need to be purchased - the aluminum hats and all hardware are fully reusable, reducing long-term running costs relative to replacing full one-piece rotors. Owners of the C7 RS6 or RS7 require the larger-diameter A1-190 instead. All GiroDisc components are manufactured in the USA.
