Vehicle Fitment

  • 2009-2013 Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 (LS9 6.2L Supercharged) - Rear axle, equipped with factory Carbon Ceramic rear rotors

Fitment Notes

  • This is a carbon ceramic to iron rotor conversion - for C6 ZR1 models with factory CCM rear brakes ONLY; it does NOT fit standard C6 Z06 or base Corvette models, which used iron rear rotors with a different hat and caliper configuration
  • Rear axle only - sold as a pair (2 rotors); for the front axle CCM conversion (C6 ZR1 front / C7 Z06 Z07 front), see GiroDisc A1-145
  • Direct bolt-on to the factory rear ZR1 calipers - no modifications are required; pad compound must be chosen to suit iron rotors (see pad note below)
  • GiroDisc can supply pad compounds for this application in multiple compounds to suit street or track requirements - contact GiroDisc for pad recommendations
  • Factory rear brake bias and ABS calibration are fully preserved
  • Once GiroDisc rings are installed, replace only the cast iron ring at service intervals - the aluminum hat and hardware are reusable (replacement rings: D2-184)

Features

  • Carbon ceramic to cast iron rear rotor conversion - replaces the factory rear CCM rotors with high-performance 2-piece iron assemblies that use the factory rear calipers; eliminates the high replacement cost of OEM CCM rotor replacement while retaining all OEM brake hardware
  • Proprietary cast iron disc rings - machined from cast iron to the same specification and material used by professional racing organisations; poured and machined in the USA in-house at GiroDisc
  • Curved vane design - developed in racing to act as a centrifugal pump, actively drawing cooling air through the disc as the rotor spins for effective thermal management under sustained hard braking
  • Two-piece fully floating construction - cast iron rotor ring joined to a 6061-T6 aircraft-specification aluminum hat via a 12-pin floating drive pin assembly; the aluminum hat replaces the heavy cast iron hat section of the OEM single-piece unit
  • 12 high-strength alloy steel drive pins per rotor - manufactured by GiroDisc to proprietary specifications and cadmium plated for long-lasting corrosion resistance; pins carry all braking torque loads while allowing the disc ring to float axially and radially relative to the hat
  • Anti-noise spring washers on drive pins - allow thermal growth of the rotor ring without binding against the hat; eliminate the rattle and clicking associated with poorly toleranced floating designs
  • Rotor self-centering - floating design allows the disc to self-center between pads on release, reducing residual drag and promoting even pad wear
  • Slotted rotor surface - removes gases and debris from the pad contact face during braking for consistent bite and reduced glazing under hard use
  • Rebuildable - when rings wear, only the D2-184 replacement rings need to be purchased; aluminum hat and all hardware are fully reusable
  • Manufactured in the USA

Product Description

The GiroDisc A2-184 is a pair of two-piece floating iron rear rotor conversion assemblies designed specifically for the 2009-2013 Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1, the only C6 Corvette equipped with Carbon Ceramic rear brakes from the factory. This product converts the rear brake system from the factory CCM rotors to high-performance cast iron two-piece units using the existing rear calipers - no caliper swap, bracket modification, or ABS recalibration is required. The only changes are the rotors themselves and the brake pad compound, which must be iron-compatible rather than CCM-specific.

The cast iron rings are machined from GiroDisc's proprietary iron alloy - poured and machined entirely in-house in the USA to the same specification used by professional racing organisations - and are joined to a 6061-T6 aluminum hat via 12 high-strength alloy steel drive pins. The drive pins are cadmium plated for corrosion resistance and secured with class 12.9 cap screws and hardened washers. Anti-noise spring washers at each pin mounting point allow the ring to expand thermally without binding against the hat, eliminating the rattle and noise that can occur with simpler floating designs during cold starts. The curved vane geometry between the disc faces actively pumps cooling air through the rotor as it spins, maintaining lower operating temperatures under the sustained high-load rear braking conditions the ZR1 generates.

GiroDisc can supply pad compounds for this application in multiple formulations suited to street or track use - contact GiroDisc directly if pad selection assistance is needed. When the cast iron rings eventually wear out, only the D2-184 replacement rings need to be purchased - the aluminum hats and all hardware are fully reusable, making the long-term running cost of the A2-184 system substantially lower than replacing the OEM CCM rear rotors. The matching front axle CCM conversion (for C6 ZR1 front or C7 Z06 with Z07 package front) is GiroDisc A1-145. All A2-184 components are manufactured in the USA.
