Vehicle Fitment

  • Universal Fit - Compatible with any petrol/gasoline or diesel turbocharged vehicle equipped with a traditional pneumatic wastegate (internal or external)

Fitment Notes

  • Designed for use with conventional pressure-actuated pneumatic wastegates only - does NOT suit VNT (Variable Nozzle Turbine) or VGT (Variable Geometry Turbine) turbos that use a vacuum-actuated wastegate, commonly found on diesel engines (use GFB 3002 for VNT/VGT applications)
  • Compatible with both internal and external wastegate setups
  • Hose lines must be at least 3mm internal diameter and kept as short as possible for best performance
  • On vehicles with a factory boost solenoid, the solenoid electrical connector should remain connected to prevent ECU fault codes - the solenoid outlet hose to the turbo intake must be disconnected and plugged
  • Boost adjustment is performed under-hood using the included Allen key - not accessible from the cabin
  • Intended for motorsport and performance use - owner is responsible for compliance with local laws and regulations regarding vehicle modifications and boost levels
  • GFB recommends that only a qualified automotive technician installs this product

Features

  • Precision needle valve and orifice bleed system - unlike ball-and-spring type controllers, this design has no moving parts in the control circuit, delivering a more repeatable and stable boost curve with no boost spiking
  • Single-stage boost control - set target boost once using the included Allen key, then leave it to deliver consistent results every time
  • Faster boost rise rate than factory boost controllers - dyno-proven to achieve target boost up to 1,700 RPM earlier in the rev range versus the OEM controller on a Subaru WRX, with gains of up to 18 kW (23.4 hp) at the wheels at lower RPM
  • 100% mechanical, zero-maintenance design - no electronics, no batteries, no solenoids, no components to fail or degrade over time
  • Set-and-forget operation - once dialled in to target boost, the Atomic holds that boost level reliably and repeatably
  • Compatible with any petrol/gasoline or diesel turbo engine with a pneumatic wastegate, making it one of the most universally applicable manual boost controllers available
  • Compact, under-hood mounting - does not require cabin installation or wiring
  • Manufactured in Australia under ISO 9001 quality management standards
  • Backed by GFB's limited lifetime warranty

Product Description

The Go Fast Bits 3001 Atomic is a single-stage manual boost controller built for any turbocharged vehicle running a traditional pneumatic wastegate - petrol or diesel, internal or external. It has earned a strong reputation as one of the most reliable and effective manual boost controllers on the market, and the reason comes down to its fundamental design philosophy. Where most competing manual boost controllers use a ball-and-spring mechanism to intercept boost pressure during spool-up, the Atomic uses a precision needle valve and fixed orifice bleed system instead. Ball-and-spring designs are prone to boost spiking and inconsistency because the spring-loaded ball creates an unpredictable, threshold-sensitive response. The Atomic's needle valve circuit has no moving parts in the control path at all, which means the boost curve is smooth, stable, and repeatable every single time the throttle is opened.

GFB validated the Atomic's performance on an MY02 Subaru WRX with a turbo-back exhaust on the dyno, comparing it back-to-back against the factory boost controller at the same peak boost target of 0.9 bar (13.2 psi). The results showed the Atomic reaching target boost up to 1,700 RPM earlier in the rev range, translating to as much as 18 kW (23.4 hp) more at the wheels at lower RPM - all without increasing peak boost pressure. This earlier spool characteristic directly improves real-world drivability and acceleration from lower in the rev range, which is particularly valuable on vehicles running larger turbos with a wider boost threshold. Installation is straightforward: route the boost source hose and wastegate hose to the two inlet/outlet ports on the Atomic body, then use the included Allen key to dial in the desired boost level. On vehicles with a factory boost solenoid, the solenoid remains in place with its electrical connector attached to prevent fault codes, but its boost control hose is disconnected and plugged.

Being a fully mechanical device, the GFB 3001 Atomic requires no wiring, no cabin mounting, and no ongoing maintenance. Once set, it holds its boost target reliably under all conditions. It is manufactured in Australia under ISO 9001 quality management standards and is backed by GFB's limited lifetime warranty. The Atomic is intended for motorsport and performance applications - boost adjustments should be made with a thorough understanding of the engine's and turbocharger's limits. For vehicles with VNT or VGT turbos using vacuum-actuated wastegates (common in diesel applications), GFB offers the 3002 as the correct alternative.
