Fitment Notes

  • This is the balance shaft belt tensioner - it tensions the secondary balance shaft belt, not the main cam timing belt; both the main timing belt tensioner and balance shaft tensioner should be replaced when performing a timing belt service
  • Fits all Mitsubishi 4G63 and 4G64 engine variants used across Mitsubishi, Chrysler/Dodge, Hyundai, and Kia platforms
  • Mitsubishi OEM cross-references: MD352473, MD192068, 1145A047
  • Also cross-references: Dayco 85470, NAPA T41038, GMB 446-1072 (VKM75613)
  • Pulley construction: Steel, smooth/backside contact surface, flanged
  • Sold individually

Features

  • Gates PowerGrip OE-quality timing tensioner - engineered to OE-exact fit, form, and function for the Mitsubishi 4G63/4G64 balance shaft drive system
  • Designed and tested to increase balance shaft belt life by maintaining optimal tension throughout the service interval
  • Smooth/backside contact surface for correct engagement with the flat side of the balance shaft belt
  • Flanged steel pulley construction for precise alignment and durability in the high-temperature underhood environment
  • Eliminates the need for re-tensioning operations during installation - installs directly as an OE replacement
  • Only OE components for the most popular and problematic timing applications

Product Description

The Gates T41038 is the PowerGrip OE-quality balance shaft belt tensioner for Mitsubishi's 4G63 and 4G64 inline-four engine family - covering a wide range of Mitsubishi, Chrysler, Dodge, Hyundai, and Kia vehicles from 1994 through 2012. It tensions the secondary balance shaft belt, which drives the engine's balance shaft assembly to reduce vibration at idle and low RPM.

Unlike the main cam timing belt tensioner, this pulley contacts the flat (backside) surface of the balance shaft belt using a smooth flanged steel pulley. It cross-references to Mitsubishi OEM part numbers MD352473, MD192068, and 1145A047, as well as Dayco 85470 and GMB 446-1072. Gates recommends replacing the balance shaft belt tensioner at every timing belt service - along with the timing belt, main tensioner, idler pulley, and water pump - since worn tensioner bearings can cause belt mis-tracking, premature wear, or belt failure between service intervals.
