Product Description

The Gates TCKWP328DN is the PowerGrip Premium timing belt kit with water pump for 2013-2021 Subaru WRX STI models equipped with the 2.5L EJ257 engine, as well as 2013-2014 Impreza WRX STI. It is the successor kit to the earlier TCKWP328B, updated with the DN (updated) specification hydraulic tensioner to match the revised tensioner bracket used in 2013+ EJ257 applications.

The kit covers all WRX STI trim levels from 2013 through the final 2021 model year, including Base, Limited, Sport, Sport-tech, Type RA, Launch Edition, Tsurugi Edition, and Series.HyperBlue. Important: the 2013-2016 Subaru WRX (non-STI) used the FA20DIT turbocharged four-cylinder, which is a chain-driven engine - it does not use a timing belt. Only the EJ257-equipped STI requires this kit. Verify your engine code before purchasing.

As with all EJ-series Subaru engines, the EJ257 is an interference design. A timing belt failure at speed leads directly to piston-to-valve contact and major internal engine damage. Gates recommends a 105,000-mile replacement interval and replacing all timing system components - belt, tensioner, idlers, and water pump - at the same time to avoid repeat timing cover removals and comebacks.
