Fitment Notes

  • Fits 2-valve (2V) SOHC Ford Modular V8 and V10 engines ONLY - does NOT fit 3-valve (3V) engines; use Edelbrock #22783 for 2004-2008 3V applications
  • Does NOT fit 4-valve (4V) DOHC engines such as the Mustang Cobra/SVT, Mach 1, or GT500; use Edelbrock #22784 for 4V applications
  • For 6.8L Triton V10 engines: order one set of #22781 plus two individual #22780 single coils for a complete set of 10
  • 2004-2010 F-150 fitment applies to 4.6L 2V variants only - trucks equipped with the 5.4L 3V use #22783 instead
  • Compatible with supercharged, turbocharged, and E85-converted 2-valve applications

Features

  • Higher-resistance windings than OEM deliver increased voltage and energy output for a hotter, more consistent spark across all RPM ranges
  • Improved cold-start reliability and smoother idle compared to stock ignition coils
  • High-temperature silicone spark plug boots rated to 550°F for superior heat resistance in tight under-hood environments
  • Stainless steel spark plug spring contact with ferrite lug minimizes electromagnetic and radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI)
  • Corrosion-resistant housing sealed with high-temperature epoxy for shock, vibration, and thermal cycle resistance
  • Direct coil-on-plug bolt-on replacement - no wiring modifications required
  • Ideal for performance builds including forced induction and E85-fueled applications
  • Sold as a complete set of 8 coils - replaces all coils on a V8 engine in one purchase

Product Description

The Edelbrock 22781 Max-Fire Coil-On-Plug Ignition Coil Set is a direct-fit performance upgrade for all 1998-2008 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles equipped with 2-valve (2V) SOHC 4.6L or 5.4L Modular V8 engines - covering the Mustang GT, F-150, Expedition, Explorer, Crown Victoria, E-Series, Lincoln Town Car, Navigator, Mercury Grand Marquis, and more. Compared to OEM coils, the Max-Fire units use higher-resistance primary and secondary windings to generate increased voltage output across the RPM range, resulting in a hotter spark, more reliable cold starts, and improved idle quality. They are equally suited to stock street engines and modified builds running superchargers, turbos, or E85 fuel.

Each coil is sealed with high-temperature epoxy and features 550°F-rated silicone boots and a stainless steel spring contact with ferrite lug for reduced EMI/RFI noise. Installation is a direct bolt-on swap with no wiring changes required. For replacement of a single failed coil, the identical unit is available individually as Edelbrock #22780. Buyers with a 6.8L Triton V10 should order one set of #22781 plus two individual #22780 coils to cover all 10 cylinders. Confirm your engine is a 2-valve (2V) variant before ordering - 3-valve and 4-valve Ford Modular engines require different coil designs.
