Product Description

The EBC GD1998 is a 3GD Series slotted and dimpled sport front brake rotor engineered as a direct OE-replacement performance upgrade for the standard 294mm front brake application on the third-generation MINI Cooper S - covering the F56 two-door hardtop (2014-2023), the F55 four-door hardtop (2015-2023), and the F57 convertible (2016-2023). These Gen 3 F-chassis MINI Cooper S models all use the same 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a front 54mm single-piston sliding caliper and a 294x22mm vented front disc, making the GD1998 a direct, zero-modification bolt-on fitment for the standard brake package across the entire F-series Cooper S range.

The Cooper S is a turbocharged hot hatch that rewards spirited driving - and the stock 294mm rotors, while dimensionally adequate for normal use, are plain-faced castings without any additional gas or dust management. Under repeated hard braking - track days, canyon runs, or repeated high-speed motorway stops - the boundary gas layer that builds between a hot pad and a plain rotor is the primary cause of brake fade and the characteristic "long pedal" sensation. The GD1998 eliminates this through two simultaneous mechanisms: the wide-aperture full-sweep slots run the entire width of the braking surface, sweeping the gas and dust layer clean on every wheel revolution; and the blind-drilled surface dimples allow additional gas venting from the pad face itself. Both operate passively on every stop without driver input, and together they keep the pad/rotor interface cleaner and cooler throughout the full heat range of an enthusiast driving session. The vented internal construction adds background cooling - as the wheel rotates, centrifugal airflow through the internal vane passages extracts heat from the casting between applications, helping the rotor recover thermal capacity for the next braking event.

Before ordering, two exclusions require attention. First, the MINI JCW (F55/F56/F57) uses a completely different 335mm Brembo 4-piston fixed front caliper and disc - the 294mm GD1998 is not compatible with the JCW brake system. Second, the base MINI Cooper (non-S) uses a smaller 276mm front disc, also not compatible with this part number. The GD1998 is correct only for the Cooper S on the standard factory 294mm package. Buyers who have retrofitted the OEM 330mm Sport Brake upgrade (which uses a different caliper) should also verify their rotor size before ordering. For all supported models on the standard Cooper S brake package, installation is a straight rotor swap in approximately 30-60 minutes per side with basic shop tools. The GEOMET black anti-corrosion coating wears naturally from the pad contact band within the first 10-20 stops and must not be disturbed with solvents prior to installation.
