Vehicle Fitment

  • Semi-Universal - Fits based on spring dimensions and valve train requirements, not vehicle-specific
  • Originally designed for Chevrolet Big Block hydraulic roller street/strip engines
  • Compatible with any engine application requiring a 1.445 in. OD single valve spring with the listed seat and open pressure specifications

Fitment Notes

  • Compatible with hydraulic flat tappet, solid flat tappet, and hydraulic roller camshafts
  • Maximum valve lift: 0.600 in. - do not exceed this lift with these springs
  • Verify installed height (1.880 in.), seat pressure (155 lbs), open pressure (377 lbs), and spring dimensions match your application requirements before ordering
  • Must be used with compatible retainers, seats, and locators (see specifications for recommended part numbers)
  • Originally designed to allow big block engines to turn more RPM with hydraulic roller cams

Features

  • Beehive valve spring design delivers increased valvetrain stability with significantly less weight than conventional dual springs
  • Unique beehive shape handles valvetrain stress more efficiently, eliminating damaging harmonics that rob horsepower and durability
  • Oval/multi-arc wire shape places the maximum wire area at the point of highest stress for improved load handling and better heat dissipation
  • Lighter spring and retainer weight reduces valvetrain inertia, enabling higher RPM operation without sacrificing valve control
  • 155 lbs seat pressure and 377 lbs open pressure provide strong valve control across a wide RPM range with less spring pressure than comparable dual springs
  • 370 lbs/in. spring rate delivers progressive resistance through the lift cycle
  • Designed for street/strip and race applications where maximum valvetrain efficiency is critical
  • Allows big block engines to turn more RPM safely by reducing reciprocating weight in the valvetrain

Product Description

The COMP Cams 26120-16 Race/Street Beehive Valve Springs are an innovative single-spring design that delivers superior valvetrain stability with significantly less weight than conventional dual valve springs. Sold as a set of 16, these springs were originally engineered for big block Chevrolet hydraulic roller street/strip engines to enable higher RPM operation, but they are compatible with any engine application where the spring dimensions match - including hydraulic flat tappet, solid flat tappet, and hydraulic roller camshaft configurations. With 155 lbs of seat pressure at 1.880 in. installed height and 377 lbs of open pressure at 1.280 in. open height, they provide strong valve control across a wide RPM range while reducing reciprocating valvetrain mass.

The unique beehive shape - tapering from a 1.445 in. bottom OD to a 1.095 in. top OD - is engineered to handle valvetrain stress more efficiently than conventional cylindrical springs. This progressive geometry eliminates the damaging harmonics and surge that can occur at high RPM with traditional spring designs, increasing both horsepower and long-term durability. The oval/multi-arc wire cross-section places the maximum wire area at the point of highest stress, improving load-bearing capacity while promoting better heat dissipation for extended service life. The lighter spring weight, combined with the ability to use smaller, lighter retainers, significantly reduces total valvetrain inertia - allowing your engine to rev higher and more freely.

These springs are rated for a maximum valve lift of 0.600 in. and feature a 370 lbs/in. spring rate with a 1.230 in. coil bind height. They must be paired with compatible retainers, spring seats, and locators - COMP Cams recommends the 795-16 retainers, 4696-16 or 4697-16 spring seats (depending on guide diameter), and 4698-16 spring cups for proper fitment. As with all valvetrain components, it is critical to verify that the installed height, seat pressure, and open pressure match the requirements of your specific camshaft before installation. COMP Cams offers free expert technical assistance to help match springs to your cam and overall engine combination.
