Description

Vehicle Fitment

  • 1996-2002 Toyota 4Runner (3rd Generation, 4WD - All Trims: SR5, Limited) - Rear Left

Fitment Notes

  • 4WD models only - this is the rear LEFT (driver side) shock absorber. The companion rear RIGHT is Bilstein 25-311303. Order both for a complete rear axle set.
  • 3rd-generation Toyota 4Runner (1996-2002) only - not compatible with 4th-gen (2003-2009) or 5th-gen (2010-2024) 4Runner.
  • Designed for 0-2.5 inches of rear lift - for use with lifted rear springs or coils in this range. Rear shocks alone do not provide lift; appropriate rear lift springs are required separately.
  • Reservoir mount/bracket is included in the box. An optional billet aluminum reservoir clamp (sold separately) is available for a cleaner installation.
  • Unique 360° swivel banjo hose fitting allows full rotation of the reservoir line for flexible, clean routing.
  • Factory shock mounting hardware is reused for installation.
  • Pairs with Bilstein 47-310872 B8 6112 front coilovers for a complete 0-2.6" four-corner lift kit.

Features

  • Bilstein B8 5160 Remote Reservoir - Bilstein's direct-fit remote reservoir monotube shock for serious off-roaders, bringing race-developed remote reservoir technology to the 3rd-gen 4Runner in a bolt-on package at the OE mounting locations.
  • External remote reservoir increases oil capacity and heat dissipation dramatically versus standard monotube shocks - maintaining consistent damping performance under sustained, repeated off-road impacts that cause traditional shocks to fade.
  • 46mm monotube gas pressure design with velocity-sensitive digressive valve settings tuned specifically for the 3rd-gen 4Runner's rear suspension geometry and lifted use cases.
  • Increases wheel travel on most applications versus a traditional shock, improving articulation and compliance over rough terrain.
  • 360° swivel banjo hose fitting allows the reservoir line to be routed cleanly in any direction without kinking or stress.
  • Zinc-plated finish for corrosion resistance. Made in the USA.

Product Description

The Bilstein 25-311310 is a B8 5160 remote reservoir rear left shock absorber for the 1996-2002 Toyota 4Runner (3rd generation) in 4WD configuration, designed for 0-2.5 inches of rear lift. The B8 5160 is Bilstein's direct-fit remote reservoir line - the same core technology used in off-road racing, packaged for bolt-on installation at the 3rd-gen 4Runner's stock rear mounting locations. For serious 4Runner off-roaders who want significantly more damping control, heat resistance, and wheel travel than a standard shock can provide, the 5160's remote reservoir is the defining upgrade.

The external reservoir substantially increases oil volume and heat dissipation capacity - the key limitation of non-reservoir shocks in sustained off-road use where repeated high-speed compressions build heat that degrades damping performance. The 360° swivel banjo hose fitting allows the reservoir to be routed cleanly in any direction, and the mounting bracket is included. Note that rear shocks alone do not provide lift - appropriate rear lift springs in the 0-2.5" range must be installed separately. For a complete front and rear upgrade, pair with the Bilstein 47-310872 B8 6112 front coilover kit. Order the companion right side (25-311303) for a complete rear axle replacement. Backed by Bilstein's 90-day warranty against manufacturer defects.
