Fitment Notes

  • CHASSIS CAB ONLY - the 42806-N is specifically engineered for the 2007.5-2012 Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 Chassis Cab (cab and chassis) body configuration. It does NOT fit Ram 2500 or 3500 standard pickup trucks - for pickup trucks, see Banks 42797 (2007.5-2012) or Banks 42798 (2013-2018).
  • This is the 2007.5-2012 Chassis Cab version. For 2019-2024 Ram 3500-5500 Chassis Cab with 6.7L Cummins, the correct part number is Banks 42805. These two generations use different intake elbow geometries and are NOT interchangeable.
  • This part number (42806-N) is the NATURAL / RAW ALUMINUM finish version. The red powdercoat version is Banks 42806-R. Both are otherwise mechanically identical.
  • Also fits dual-alternator equipped engines - no additional modifications required.
  • 50-state emissions compliance status: CARB-EO pending for this Chassis Cab application - confirm current CARB-EO status before purchasing if California emissions compliance is required.
  • Sold as a complete system kit - includes all hardware required for installation.

Features

  • 88.3% mass airflow improvement over stock - the Monster-Ram Chassis Cab system flows 72.7 lbs/min MAF with Banks' high-flow coil heater and cast intake plate installed, compared to the factory intake elbow and grid heater assembly's 38.6 lbs/min. This 88.3% improvement more than doubles the gain of the closest competing aftermarket intake elbow in Banks' testing, delivering a measurable improvement in throttle response, power, and fuel efficiency under both everyday operation and the sustained heavy-load conditions that define Chassis Cab truck use.
  • Eliminates the "Killer Grid Heater" failure risk - specific to the 6.7L Cummins: due to heat, vibration, and time, studs and nuts from the factory heater grid are documented to come loose and fall into the intake manifold. The 6.7L Cummins engine has a 5° rake, meaning a broken bolt or stud rolls downhill directly into cylinder #6, causing catastrophic valve and piston damage requiring a complete engine rebuild or replacement. The Monster-Ram permanently eliminates this failure point by replacing the entire factory grid heater assembly with Banks' High-Flow Coil Heater and cast intake plate. The factory heater cannot fail if it is not there.
  • Banks High-Flow Coil Heater - the vertical coil-style replacement heater provides the same cold-start air preheating functionality as the OEM grid heater in all low-temperature operating conditions, ensuring the Chassis Cab truck's cold-weather startability is fully preserved, while eliminating the airflow restriction that the grid plate imposes across its bore on every start and throughout engine operation.
  • Proprietary custom-engineered fuel line - the factory No. 1 fuel line routing obstructs the intake elbow airflow path in the Ram Chassis Cab engine bay, forcing all other aftermarket replacement manifolds to compromise their bore geometry to route around it. Banks engineered a proprietary replacement fuel line with a new routing path, allowing the Monster-Ram casting to achieve a wide, unrestricted, free-flowing bore without the compromise imposed by the stock fuel line - a solution that no competing aftermarket intake elbow for this application implements.
  • Wide, unrestricted, free-flowing bore - the factory Ram Chassis Cab intake elbow is squashed and angular to accommodate the stock No. 1 fuel line routing, creating significant turbulence and restriction at every flow rate. The Monster-Ram's CFD-engineered casting eliminates this compromise, providing a large, smooth, free-flowing internal passage that reduces restriction while optimizing air pressure and distribution to the intake manifold.
  • Raises boost without increasing turbine backpressure - the Monster-Ram's larger bore and optimized geometry improves airflow delivery from the intercooler to the intake manifold without restricting the turbocharger's turbine discharge side, increasing effective boost at the intake by removing downstream restriction rather than by building backpressure upstream - a more efficient approach that improves performance without degrading EGTs.
  • Four 1/8 in. NPT ports - the Monster-Ram casting includes four 1/8 in. NPT threaded ports for pressure sensors, intake air temperature sensors, water/methanol injection nozzles, propane injection, or any other sensor or injection system requiring access to the post-intercooler charge air stream.
  • Dual Heat Capable - supports dual-heat cold-start operation, retaining reliable low-temperature startability across the full range of cold-weather operating conditions where the OEM grid heater was depended upon.
  • Accommodates all stock mounting points - engineered for the existing factory mounting locations in the 2007.5-2012 Ram Chassis Cab engine bay.
  • Natural / raw aluminum finish - the -N suffix indicates the bare aluminum casting finish, showing the natural aluminum surface without powdercoat. The red powdercoat version is Banks 42806-R.

Product Description

The Banks Power 42806-N is the natural aluminum finish Monster-Ram Intake and Killer Grid Heater Upgrade for the 2007.5-2012 Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 Chassis Cab equipped with the 6.7L Cummins turbodiesel - the Chassis Cab-specific alternative to the 42797 pickup version. The engine bay geometry of the Ram Chassis Cab differs from the standard pickup in ways that require a distinctly different intake elbow casting, and the 42806-N is engineered specifically for that environment. Like its pickup counterpart, it delivers two equally critical benefits: an 88.3% mass airflow gain over the stock intake, and permanent elimination of the factory Killer Grid Heater failure mode that is documented to destroy 6.7L Cummins engines. The raw aluminum finish is the only visual difference between the 42806-N and the red powdercoat 42806-R - both are mechanically identical.

The fundamental engineering challenge unique to the Chassis Cab Monster-Ram is the factory No. 1 fuel line routing. In the Ram Chassis Cab, this fuel line runs directly through the intake elbow airflow path, forcing the stock elbow into a squashed, angular geometry that creates significant turbulence and restriction - and forcing every competing aftermarket intake replacement to accept the same compromise by routing around the stock fuel line. Banks' solution was to engineer a proprietary replacement fuel line with a new routing path, freeing the Monster-Ram casting to use a wide, free-flowing bore without the obstruction. This is the reason competing aftermarket intake elbows for the Ram Chassis Cab 6.7L Cummins cannot achieve comparable airflow numbers - they all work around the stock fuel line rather than solving it.

The Killer Grid Heater risk is documented and specific to the 6.7L Cummins platform across all body styles: due to heat, vibration, and extended service, the factory grid heater's studs and nuts come loose and fall into the intake manifold. The 6.7L Cummins has a 5° engine rake, meaning a broken piece rolls directly into cylinder #6 - causing catastrophic valve and piston damage that requires complete engine rebuild or replacement. Banks removes the grid heater assembly entirely and replaces it with a High-Flow Coil Heater that retains full cold-start preheating function without the bolt-failure catastrophe risk. Every high-mileage 2007.5-2012 Ram Chassis Cab 6.7L Cummins is a grid heater failure waiting to happen. Note: CARB-EO status for this Chassis Cab application is pending - confirm current status if California compliance is required. Sold as a complete kit including proprietary fuel line and all hardware.
