Fitment Notes

• Axle Compatibility - Read Carefully: This kit is designed exclusively for the newer-style GM 14-bolt full-float rear axle with ribbing on the differential casting, equipped with factory drum brakes from the factory, and with a WMS-to-WMS (wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface) measurement of 68 inches or greater. Not all 14-bolt axles are compatible - only the newer ribbed casting variant is supported.
• This kit is NOT intended for factory disc brake-equipped 14-bolt axles. If your 14-bolt already has factory disc brakes, see the Artec Industries JK 1 Ton 14 Bolt Factory Disc ABS Kit instead.
• This kit is NOT intended for older-style 14-bolt axles with a smooth (non-ribbed) differential casting. Use the diagram on the Artec Industries product page to confirm your axle casting style before ordering.
• BB1420 includes 52-tooth tone rings. If 60-tooth tone rings are required for your ABS sensor and tuner setup, order BB1421 instead. Note: if using the 60-tooth option, the speedometer may read approximately 1-3% off without tuner correction.
• This kit is designed to complement the Artec Industries JK 1 Ton 14-Bolt Axle Swap Kit - the swap kit is not included and must be purchased separately.
• Wiring note: The kit provides 2 ABS sensor mounting positions per side (4 total). One sensor per side connects to the factory JK rear ABS plugs. The other 2 sensor positions require splicing into the front ABS sensor plugs. If using a 2005-2013 Superduty front Dana 60 axle on the front, only 2 rear sensors can be installed; the front axle will use Dodge ABS sensors with 60-tooth tone rings (Chrysler P/N 5179958AB, Dorman P/N 970-052, or Airtec P/N 5S8491).
• Use of this kit may require an optional tuner capable of adjusting gear ratio and tire size parameters to maintain accurate speedometer and ABS function after the axle swap.
• The 1/4" press-on tone rings require machining of the 14-bolt hub flange to achieve correct fit - this step cannot be skipped. Machining should be performed by a qualified machine shop prior to installation.
• This kit requires general welding, machining, and fabrication skills. Installation should only be performed by a qualified welder and fabricator. Artec Industries is not responsible for incorrect installation or improper use.

Product Description

The Artec Industries BB1420 is a rear drum-to-disc brake and ABS conversion kit designed for 2007-2017 Jeep Wrangler JK builds performing a GM 14-bolt full-float axle swap. When a JK is swapped to a GM 14-bolt rear axle - a widely used upgrade for builders seeking a stronger, wider 1-ton-rated rear axle - the factory drum brakes, different bolt pattern, and absence of factory ABS provisions on the donor axle create a significant engineering challenge: how to restore disc braking performance and maintain the JK's factory ABS function without triggering codes or causing limp-mode behavior. The BB1420 addresses all of these issues in a single kit.

The kit's 3/8 inch steel brake brackets are CNC-cut and threaded to provide precise caliper and ABS sensor geometry, using widely available GM front calipers from 1973-1987 3/4-ton trucks and hat-style rotors from the 2003 GMC Sierra 2500 2WD - both readily sourced at NAPA or AutoZone. The 52-tooth tone rings are zinc plated for corrosion resistance and press onto the 14-bolt hub flange after a machining step that is required for correct fitment. ABS sensor mounting positions are built directly into the brake brackets with precise standoff spacing, and 16-gauge CNC-bent mud guards protect the tone ring and sensor gap from trail debris. The BB1420 (52-tooth) is the correct choice for most JK 14-bolt swap applications not using a 2005-2013 Superduty front Dana 60.
