Fitment Notes

  • Designed specifically for the BMW S63B44 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 engine - does not fit N63 naturally aspirated or N63TU variants without confirming head bolt pattern compatibility
  • This is the ARP2000 version (200,000 psi) - for the higher-rated Custom Age 625+ version, see ARP 201-4703
  • Cylinder head removal is required for installation - professional installation is strongly recommended
  • After initial assembly, a full heat cycle must be completed and studs re-torqued before returning to full power operation
  • Use ARP Ultra-Torque assembly lubricant on stud threads and under nut faces - do not use engine oil

Features

  • Made from ARP2000 proprietary alloy, rated at 200,000 psi (220,000 psi clamp load) - substantially stronger than OEM BMW head bolt hardware
  • Threads rolled after heat treatment for up to 2,000% better fatigue life compared to studs threaded before heat treating
  • Centerless ground to near-perfect concentricity for precise alignment and consistent clamping force across all stud positions
  • Prevents cylinder head lift under high-boost operation - a critical failure point when increasing power beyond factory S63 specifications
  • Hardened parallel-ground washers included for uniform load distribution and accurate torque readings
  • Reusable fasteners - inspect at each teardown and replace if stretch exceeds specification

Product Description

The ARP 201-4702 is an ARP2000 head stud kit engineered specifically for the BMW S63B44 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 found in the M5, M6, X5M, and X6M across multiple chassis generations. As power output increases beyond factory S63 specifications - whether through increased boost, fueling upgrades, or a full engine build - the OEM torque-to-yield head bolts become the limiting factor. They are designed for a single use at stock power levels and will stretch, distort, or fail under repeated or elevated loads. This ARP kit replaces them with ARP2000 studs rated at 200,000 psi, providing the clamping force needed to keep the cylinder heads sealed under any operating condition.

ARP2000 delivers approximately 40% more tensile strength than 8740 chromoly, with threads rolled after heat treatment for exceptional fatigue life. For builds targeting extreme power levels, the CA625+ version (ARP 201-4703) offers even higher tensile strength at 260,000-280,000 psi. Cylinder head removal is required for installation, and a full re-torque after the first heat cycle is mandatory for optimal head gasket sealing.
