Vehicle Fitment

  • 2009-2014 Ford F-150 - All Cab Styles (Regular Cab, SuperCab, SuperCrew) and All Trims (XL, XLT, STX, FX2, FX4, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Limited, Harley-Davidson Edition); all engines

Fitment Notes

  • This is an OBD-II wiring harness accessory - it is NOT a running board or a complete PowerStep kit; a compatible AMP Research PowerStep must already be installed on the vehicle before this kit can be used
  • The primary compatible PowerStep kit is 75141-01A (2009-2014 Ford F-150, All Cabs, All Trims); confirm kit compatibility before ordering
  • This kit retrofits an existing hardwired AMP Research PowerStep installation to OBD-II Plug-N-Play operation - designed for owners whose installed PowerStep kit uses a standard hardwired door-ajar circuit connection and who want to convert to OBD-II-based control to simplify wiring and eliminate door panel removal
  • This kit is Ford F-150-platform-specific and uses the Ford OBD-II port pinout for the 2009-2014 F-150 - it is NOT compatible with GM, RAM, Toyota, or other OBD-II port formats; the GM-platform equivalent is PN 76400-01A, and the Ford Super Duty equivalent is PN 76403-01A
  • This kit is also included with some AMP Research PowerStep purchases; if the installed kit already came with a Plug-N-Play module, this conversion kit is not needed
  • If the OBD-II port needs to remain accessible for a diagnostic scan tool while the PowerStep is connected, the AMP Research Pass-Through Harness (PN 76404-01A) is available separately

Features

  • Converts a hardwired AMP Research PowerStep installation on covered 2009-2014 Ford F-150 trucks to OBD-II Plug-N-Play operation - the harness plugs directly into the vehicle's OBD-II diagnostic port under the dashboard, pulling power and door-open/close signals without requiring door panel removal or factory wire splicing
  • Significantly reduces installation time and complexity - eliminates the most labor-intensive steps of the original hardwired PowerStep installation process
  • Heavy-duty, weatherproof connectors at all connection points resist contamination from mud, water, and dust for reliable long-term operation in all climates and conditions
  • Integrated fuse holders protect the vehicle's electrical system and the PowerStep controller from voltage spikes and electrical faults
  • Corrugated split loom wire sheathing protects harness wires against abrasion, heat, and chafing during routing behind the dashboard
  • Thick-gauge copper wiring throughout ensures low resistance and reliable power delivery to the PowerStep motor system
  • Made in the USA; backed by AMP Research's 5-year limited warranty

Product Description

The AMP Research 76401-01A PowerStep Plug-N-Play Conversion Kit is an OBD-II wiring harness accessory designed to upgrade compatible AMP Research PowerStep electric running board installations on 2009-2014 Ford F-150 trucks to OBD-II Plug-N-Play operation. Owners of the original hardwired PowerStep kits - where installation requires removing door panels and splicing into factory door-ajar wiring - can use this conversion kit to bypass that process by connecting the PowerStep system directly to the Ford F-150's OBD-II diagnostic port under the dashboard.

The kit is engineered specifically for the Ford F-150 OBD-II port pinout used on 2009-2014 model years. It reads door-open and door-close signals and draws operating power through the OBD-II connection, eliminating door panel removal and factory wiring access entirely. The harness is built with thick-gauge copper wiring, weatherproof connectors at all junction points, integrated fuse holders for electrical protection, and corrugated split loom wire sheathing to protect the wire run during dashboard routing. All hardware and instructions needed for the conversion are included.

The 76401-01A is primarily designed for use with PowerStep kit 75141-01A (2009-2014 Ford F-150, All Cabs, All Trims) and other compatible hardwired Ford F-150-platform PowerStep installations. It is Ford F-150-specific - the GM-equivalent kit is PN 76400-01A, and the Ford Super Duty equivalent is PN 76403-01A. This kit is not compatible with RAM, Toyota, or any other OBD-II port format. If the OBD-II port needs to remain accessible for diagnostic tools after installation, the AMP Research Pass-Through Harness (PN 76404-01A) is sold separately. The 76401-01A is made in the USA and backed by AMP Research's 5-year limited warranty.
