Fitment Notes

  • Does NOT fit the BMW M2 Competition (2018-2021, S55 engine) or M2 CS (2020-2021) - the Competition and CS use a different front strut tower configuration that is not compatible with this brace. Owners of M2 Competition and CS models should not order this part.
  • Fits all F22 (coupe) and F23 (convertible) 2 Series models from 2014-2018 across all available L4 and L6 engine variants, including both RWD and xDrive configurations. Also fits the F87 M2 (standard version, N55 engine) from 2016-2018.
  • Direct bolt-on installation using existing front strut tower mounting points - no drilling, welding, or chassis modifications required. Installs with factory hardware positions.
  • The removable orange aFe CONTROL logo plate allows the brace to be displayed with the logo for a branded look, or with the logo plate removed for a cleaner, minimalist appearance.
  • This product covers the F-chassis generation F22/F23/F87 only. It does not fit the G42 2 Series (2022+), nor any 3 or 4 Series models on the F30/F32 platform even if engine codes overlap.

Features

  • Dual-Tube Truss Design: The one-piece dual-tube truss configuration connects the two front strut towers with two parallel steel tubes joined into a rigid geometric structure. This design resists bending, twisting, and torsional deflection more effectively than single flat bar or hinged two-piece strut braces, which can flex at the center joint or along the bar length under lateral chassis loads.
  • Reduces Chassis Flex: By triangulating the front strut towers, the brace limits the lateral movement between them during cornering. On an open-body or unibody chassis, front strut towers can deflect several millimeters under hard cornering, causing inconsistent front suspension geometry and unpredictable turn-in response. The strut brace absorbs and redistributes these forces through the bar into both towers simultaneously.
  • Improved Turn-In Response: With front strut tower deflection minimized, the front suspension geometry maintains its designed angles and pivot points through corner entry - resulting in sharper, more direct initial steering response and more consistent front-end behavior at the limit.
  • 100% Tubular Steel Bars: Solid tubular steel bar construction provides excellent strength-to-weight ratio and long-term fatigue resistance under repeated chassis loading cycles - more durable than hollow extruded aluminum alternatives at this application.
  • High-Strength Steel Brackets: End brackets that attach to the strut towers are fabricated from high-strength steel for secure mounting and resistance to deformation under sustained lateral loading.
  • Solid One-Piece Construction: Unlike hinged or two-piece bolt-together strut braces, this is a single rigid unit with no mid-span joints - eliminating the potential flex point at the center that reduces the effectiveness of adjustable or hinged designs.
  • Gunmetal Gray Powder Coat Finish: The entire brace is coated in a durable gunmetal gray powder coat - heat and corrosion resistant, and visually neutral against most engine bay color schemes.
  • Removable aFe CONTROL Logo Plate: An orange logo plate is included and attaches to the brace for a branded appearance - and can be removed entirely for a cleaner look, giving the owner flexibility to match their build aesthetic.
  • Simple Direct-Fit Installation: Mounts directly to existing factory strut tower hardware positions with no modifications to the vehicle required. No special tools beyond standard hand tools are needed.
  • Made in USA: Engineered and manufactured at aFe CONTROL's Corona, California facility.
  • Does Not Require a CARB EO#: No emissions impact - 50-state legal.

Product Description

The aFe CONTROL 450-502003-G is a front suspension strut tower brace engineered for the 2014-2018 BMW F22/F23 2 Series across all coupe and convertible body styles - including 228i, 230i, M235i, M240i, and all xDrive variants - as well as the 2016-2018 F87 M2 (standard N55 version only). By rigidly connecting the two front strut towers with a one-piece dual-tube truss structure, this brace reduces the lateral deflection that occurs between strut towers during hard cornering. On the F22/F23 platform, front tower movement under lateral load causes small but measurable changes in front suspension geometry - shifting camber, caster, and toe angles away from their designed values at the moment they matter most. The strut brace absorbs and distributes these loads into both towers simultaneously, preserving the front geometry and delivering sharper, more predictable turn-in behavior.

The dual-tube truss design is a meaningful structural upgrade over single-bar or hinged two-piece braces. A single flat bar is susceptible to bending along its length; a hinged brace introduces a pivot point at the center that can flex under torsional loading. The one-piece dual-tube truss geometry of this brace is inherently stiffer against all three failure modes - bending, twisting, and torsion - while remaining lighter than a solid bar of equivalent strength. Both the bars and end brackets are fabricated from steel for long-term fatigue resistance under repeated load cycles, and the entire assembly is finished in a durable gunmetal gray powder coat. An orange removable aFe CONTROL logo plate is included for owners who want a branded engine bay appearance - or can be removed entirely for a cleaner look.

Installation is a direct bolt-on procedure using the factory strut tower mounting positions - no drilling, cutting, or modification to the chassis required. This brace is not compatible with the M2 Competition or M2 CS, which use a different strut tower architecture. It is specific to the F-chassis generation (F22/F23/F87) and does not fit the G42 2 Series (2022+). Manufactured in Corona, California, backed by a 2-year aFe POWER warranty, and requiring no CARB EO# of any kind.
