Vehicle Fitment

  • 1970-1972 Chevrolet Chevelle
  • 1970-1972 Chevrolet Malibu
  • 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Fitment Notes

  • This tank is designed to be a direct drop-in replacement for the factory fuel tank on the listed applications. It uses the original equipment mounting straps, filler cap, and vent - none of those components need to be purchased or modified. The outlet and return port locations match the factory fuel outlet position, allowing the tank to install flush to the vehicle floor without strap modification, relocating hardware, or spacers.
  • The 18102 is supplied with the Stealth 200 lph pump (approximately 53 GPH). This pump supports naturally aspirated EFI applications up to 600 HP and naturally aspirated carbureted applications up to 750 HP. Builds requiring more fuel flow - particularly E85, methanol, or forced induction applications exceeding these ratings - should use the companion 340 lph version of this same tank: PN 18402, which supports up to 850/700 HP EFI (gas N/A/FI) and 1000/850 HP carbureted (gas N/A/FI), with E85 compatibility as well.
  • The billet aluminum hat features AN-06 (6 AN) outlet and return ports. An AN-06 fuel feed line and AN-06 return line are required for installation and are not included with the tank. For return-style EFI systems, an adjustable EFI fuel pressure regulator compatible with AN-06 ports (such as Aeromotive PN 13101) is required and sold separately.
  • The pre-installed fuel level sending unit has a 0-90 Ohm resistance range, which is compatible with the factory GM fuel level gauge in 1970-1972 Chevelle, Malibu, and 1970 Monte Carlo applications. No sending unit substitution or gauge modification is required for a stock gauge installation.
  • Not recommended for competition drag racing or road racing applications where the vehicle will be subjected to extreme acceleration or high-G cornering with less than a half tank of fuel. At very low fuel levels under extreme cornering or acceleration forces, fuel slosh can momentarily uncover the pump inlet despite the Phantom Baffle. Aeromotive fuel cells with appropriate gated collectors and baffling are recommended for these applications.
  • This product is not legal for sale or use on emissions-controlled vehicles except as a direct OEM-spec replacement. California: legal for race/competition vehicles only that may never be licensed or registered for public road use.

Features

  • The Gen II Stealth Fuel Tank arrives completely pre-assembled and ready for installation directly into the vehicle. The Stealth 200 lph pump, 0-90 Ohm fuel level sending unit, and fuel/electrical bulkhead are all installed inside the tank at the factory. There is no pump assembly, no hanger installation, and no tank preparation required before dropping it into the car. This is the defining practical advantage of the Gen II Stealth Tank over traditional high-performance fuel tank upgrade approaches, which require sourcing a tank, sourcing a compatible pump, sourcing a hanger, and fabricating or purchasing a custom hat assembly.
  • The patented Phantom Baffle technology is the engineering core of the Gen II Stealth. The baffle maintains a reservoir of fuel around the pump inlet at all times - including at lower fuel levels and during normal driving that involves acceleration, braking, and turning. Without this baffle, fuel slosh at a partially filled tank can momentarily expose the pump inlet to air, causing a lean condition that the ECU may not respond to fast enough to prevent misfires or power disruption. The Phantom Baffle solves this problem passively, without any mechanical or electrical actuation.
  • The Stealth 200 lph pump uses a turbine pumping mechanism, which is inherently quieter than roller vane or gear pump designs in an in-tank application. The turbine design produces smooth, low-noise operation even at the high flow rates required at peak power demand, eliminating the pump whine that is common with lower-quality or non-turbine in-tank pumps.
  • The billet aluminum hat and hanger assembly provides the structural foundation for the pump and sending unit within the tank. The CNC-machined billet hat features AN-06 O-ring boss ports for both the fuel feed outlet and the return line connection, providing positive leak-free sealing at the tank's top surface without the potential leak paths associated with compression or NPT-threaded connections.
  • The tank body is manufactured from steel with a silver painted exterior - matching the OEM appearance of the factory Chevelle/Malibu/Monte Carlo fuel tank. The exterior finish protects against rust and corrosion in the undercar environment while maintaining the factory-correct visual appearance in the trunk or under the vehicle.
  • The lock ring kit, which secures the pump/hat assembly in the tank opening, is included with the tank. No additional lock ring hardware purchases are needed for installation.

Product Description

The Aeromotive 18102 is a Gen II Stealth Fuel Tank for the 1970-1972 Chevrolet Chevelle and Malibu and the 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. It is a complete, pre-assembled replacement fuel tank that includes a pre-installed Stealth 200 lph pump, billet aluminum hat with AN-06 ports, and a 0-90 Ohm fuel level sending unit - all mounted and sealed in the factory-matched 20-gallon steel tank body, ready for installation with no assembly required.

The Phantom Baffle technology built into the Gen II Stealth design maintains a fuel reservoir around the pump inlet at all driving conditions to prevent starvation. This addresses the fundamental limitation of a standard factory fuel tank - a tank with no active fuel management around the pump inlet will expose it to air during low-fuel driving, braking, and cornering, causing momentary lean conditions that can be particularly problematic with a tuned EFI system. The Phantom Baffle solves this passively and permanently, without any driver input or mechanical actuation. The Stealth 200 lph turbine pump supports naturally aspirated EFI gasoline builds to 600 HP and carbureted builds to 750 HP - sufficient for most street performance and moderately built muscle cars. Builds requiring more flow, E85 compatibility, or higher forced induction power targets should select the companion 340 lph version (PN 18402).

The outlet and return ports are positioned at the factory fuel outlet location, allowing the tank to install flush to the vehicle floor with the original mounting straps (not included) and without spacers or strap modification. The 0-90 Ohm sending unit is compatible with the factory GM fuel level gauge - no gauge substitution or calibration is required. Not legal for emissions-controlled vehicles; California competition use only.
