Vehicle Fitment

  • 1989-1992 Nissan Skyline GT-R (BNR32, 2.6L RB26DETT Twin Turbo, AWD)

Fitment Notes

  • This kit is specific to the early R32 GT-R push-type clutch configuration. All R32 GT-R models produced up to approximately February 1993 use a push-type clutch release system. Late-production R32 GT-R models (from approximately February/March 1993 onward) and all R33 and R34 GT-R models use a pull-type system and require a different kit variant.
  • To identify your clutch type before ordering: a push-type pressure plate has open diaphragm fingers; a pull-type pressure plate has a solid ring in place of open fingers. If in doubt, confirm by chassis production date or consult your chassis log.
  • This is a complete twin-disc system and includes its own CNC-machined flywheel. The flywheel is purpose-built for the Mod-Twin and is not compatible with OEM single-disc clutch components. Do not attempt to use this kit with the factory flywheel.
  • The Mono-Drive hub design uses a single continuous spline rather than separate inner and outer hubs. This eliminates the misalignment risk associated with conventional twin-disc assemblies during installation - alignment is self-correcting through the single hub.
  • Break-in requirement: 300-500 miles of mild, progressive engagement (stop-and-go city driving) before full-load or spirited use. Do not overheat the clutch during the break-in period, as this can glaze friction surfaces or cause premature wear.

Features

  • The Mod-Twin 225 architecture combines two friction surfaces on a single Mono-Drive sprung hub, eliminating the two-hub complexity of conventional twin-disc designs. The result is a clutch that delivers twin-disc torque capacity with engagement feel and driveline shock absorption closer to a high-performance single disc - a meaningful advantage for a 1,400+ kg AWD street car.
  • Heavy Duty diaphragm springs undergo ACT's exclusive four-stage heat-treating process for consistent, predictable clamping force with a light to moderate pedal feel - notably lighter than race-spec Xtreme or XXT variants, preserving daily driveability on the street.
  • Steel-backed organic friction plates deliver a stable, consistent friction coefficient across a wide temperature range, with heat capacity sufficient for high-output RB26DETT builds producing well beyond OEM power. Organic construction keeps engagement smooth and engagement quality high - without the aggressive on-off bite of ceramic pads.
  • The sprung Mono-Drive hub uses torsional dampener springs to absorb driveline shock, reducing transmission input shaft stress and gear rattle - a key benefit for the R32 GT-R's FS5R30A 5-speed, which is known to be sensitive to harsh unsprung clutch engagement under high power.
  • The Monoloc Collar - ACT's patented one-piece retaining collar - replaces the conventional two-piece wedge collar and wire ring used in pull-type clutch designs, simplifying the clutch release interface and reducing the failure points associated with multi-piece collar assemblies.
  • CNC-machined and dynamically balanced flywheel replaces the OEM unit and is spec'd specifically for the Mod-Twin clutch stack height, ensuring correct clutch engagement geometry and release bearing travel from first installation.
  • Completely modular design: all Mod-Twin components can be ordered individually, making field rebuilds and targeted replacements possible without purchasing a complete kit.
  • SFI 1.1 certified - legal for use in all sanctioned racing organizations that require SFI certification.
  • Dynamically computer balanced to within 0.25 oz-in for smooth, vibration-free operation at high RPM.

Product Description

The ACT T1SS-N06 is the Mod-Twin 225 HD Sprung Street Kit for the 1989-1992 Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32, BNR32), the push-type clutch configuration used in all early R32 GT-R production. It is ACT's answer to the performance gap that has long existed between high-torque single-disc clutches and conventional twin-disc race setups for this platform: the Mod-Twin's 875 ft-lb torque capacity at the crank handles the full power range of a seriously built RB26DETT, while the sprung Mono-Drive hub and organic friction plates maintain the engagement quality and pedal feel expected of a street-driven car.

The central engineering innovation of the Mod-Twin is its single Mono-Drive hub, which locates both friction surfaces to one continuous spline rather than the separate inner/outer hubs common in conventional twin-disc designs. On the street, this matters because it eliminates the hub-to-hub misalignment that causes harsh engagement in rigid twin-disc setups. In service, it matters because there is no floater misalignment risk during installation and no double-spline wear pattern to manage on the input shaft over time. The sprung version used here (vs. the solid-hub T1S variant) adds a torsional dampener between the friction assembly and the transmission - keeping driveline shock manageable and the FS5R30A 5-speed healthy under repeated hard acceleration.

The kit ships as a complete system including a CNC-machined application-specific flywheel, all clutch hardware, an improved release bearing, and alignment tool. All Mod-Twin components are available as separate replacement items, meaning the system can be rebuilt selectively rather than replaced in full. The push-type fitment window is 1989 to approximately February 1993 - late R32 GT-R and all R33/R34 GT-R models use pull-type variants. Confirm your production date and clutch type before ordering.
