  • 2003-2006 Toyota Corolla XRS (1.8L DOHC 2ZZ-GE, FWD)
  • 2003-2006 Toyota Matrix XRS (1.8L DOHC 2ZZ-GE, FWD)
  • 2003-2006 Pontiac Vibe GT (1.8L DOHC 2ZZ-GE, FWD)
  • 2004-2011 Lotus Elise - All Variants: 111R, R, SC (1.8L DOHC 2ZZ-GE, RWD, NA and Supercharged)
  • 2004-2011 Lotus Exige - All Variants: S2, S, SC, 240R, 260 Cup (1.8L DOHC 2ZZ-GE, RWD, NA and Supercharged)
  • 2006-2011 Lotus 2-Eleven (1.8L DOHC 2ZZ-GE, RWD)

Fitment Notes

  • Fits the Toyota 2ZZ-GE engine only - does NOT fit the Toyota 1ZZ-FE, 1ZZ-FED, or any other ZZ-family engine variant
  • Does NOT fit the Toyota Celica GT (base trim) - the GT uses the 1ZZ-FE engine, not the 2ZZ-GE
  • Does NOT fit the Toyota Corolla or Matrix base models equipped with the 1ZZ-FE engine
  • Fits both naturally aspirated and factory supercharged 2ZZ-GE applications (Lotus Elise SC, Exige S, Exige 240R, Exige 260)
  • Fits 2ZZ-GE engine swaps into non-OEM applications (e.g., Celica GT swap), provided the 2ZZ-GE block is used
  • STD (standard) size - crankshaft main journals must be at OEM standard diameter; crankshaft must not be undersize ground
  • Professional engine builder recommended for proper bearing clearance measurement and installation

Features

  • ACL Race Series tri-metal construction - engineered to withstand higher RPM loads, elevated temperatures, and increased stress beyond OEM tolerances
  • High-strength overlay plate with reduced thickness for superior fatigue resistance and longer service life under sustained high-RPM operation
  • Hardened steel backing on all rod bearing shells for improved support and retention within the housing under high-load conditions
  • Increased bearing crush for improved retention and elimination of flash plating on the back, maximizing heat transfer and grip against the bearing housing
  • 3/4 grooved main bearing design to optimize oil supply to the crankshaft journals and maximize load-carrying capacity
  • Increased eccentricity to compensate for bore distortion at high RPM and to assist in the formation of hydrodynamic oil films
  • Tighter wall tolerances than OEM for more consistent and precise oil clearances during assembly
  • Large chamfer design to accommodate larger crankshaft fillet radii on performance-reground crankshafts
  • Compatible with mixing adjacent bearing grades (H-STD with HX-STD) for fine-tuning oil clearances as specified by ACL guidelines
  • Proven motorsport-grade design with race heritage dating back to Brabham Formula 1 and Australian Supercars championships

Product Description

The ACL Race Series 5M1857H-STD is a standard-size crankshaft main bearing set engineered specifically for the Toyota 2ZZ-GE 1.8L DOHC inline-four engine. Found in performance-oriented vehicles including the Toyota Celica GT-S, Corolla XRS, Matrix XRS, Pontiac Vibe GT, and the full range of Lotus Elise, Exige, and 2-Eleven models, the 2ZZ-GE is a high-revving, Yamaha-designed engine built to operate at sustained RPMs well above typical street engines. Standard OEM bearings, while adequate under factory conditions, can become a weak point during engine rebuilds, high-performance use, or in aging engines where oil clearances have widened. The ACL Race Series bearings address this directly with a tri-metal construction combining a hardened steel backing, a performance intermediate layer, and a high-strength reduced-thickness overlay plate engineered for improved fatigue resistance and greater load-carrying capacity.

Key engineering advantages of the ACL Race Series design over OEM replacements include tighter and more consistent wall tolerances for controlled oil clearances, a 3/4 groove pattern on the upper shells to maintain optimal oil supply to all five crankshaft main journals at high RPM, and increased eccentricity to counteract bore distortion that occurs at the extreme RPM ranges the 2ZZ-GE is designed to operate in. Hardened steel backing across all shells maintains crush under high thermal and mechanical loads, while the elimination of flash plating on the bearing back maximizes grip between the bearing and its housing - preventing micro-movement that can lead to fretting and premature failure.

This listing is for the STD (standard) size set, intended for use with a crankshaft that measures at OEM standard main journal diameter. Proper oil clearance measurement using plastigage or a micrometer set is mandatory prior to final assembly, as aftermarket bearing wall dimensions may vary slightly from OEM. ACL Race Series bearings can also be mixed with adjacent HX-STD shells to fine-tune clearances, per ACL's published guidelines. This bearing set is appropriate for street rebuilds, track-day builds, autocross, and full race applications using the 2ZZ-GE platform - including naturally aspirated and factory supercharged Lotus variants.
